Tips For Renting The Right Air Compressor

Air compressors are a type of machine that converts electrical energy into kinetic energy by blasting out compressed air. An air compressor can be used in many applications and to power a variety of tools. However, most people do not use an air compressor on a regular basis, so it makes more sense to rent one instead of purchasing one. If you need to rent an air compressor for a project, use the following tips:

Energy Source

Air compressors can be powered by either electricity or gas. The best air compressor rental for your situation will depend on where your project is taking place. If you are working indoors where electricity is available, an electrical air compressor is recommended. It is not a good idea to use a gas-powered air compressor indoors because the fumes can be overpowering. A gas-powered air compressor is best used outdoors where there is no access to a reliable electrical source.

PSI Needs

The air pressure delivered by an air compressor is rated in pounds per square inch (PSI). The amount of PSI needed will depend on the type of tools that you will be using during your project. Prior to renting an air compressor, make sure you determine the PSI requirements of your tools. The last thing you want to do is rent an air compressor with a PSI that is too low to properly power your tools.

Size of Tank

Air compressors come with different size tanks that can hold a specific amount of air. The amount of air in an air compressor tank is measured in gallons. Different types of tools will require different tank sizes. For example, a nail gun only requires short bursts of air, so if you will mainly be using this type of tool you can rent an air compressor with a smaller air tank. But if you will be using something like a sandblaster that needs to continually be supplied with compressed air, you will need to rent an air compressor with a much larger air tank.

Model

If you're a homeowner doing a DIY project, if can be beneficial to rent a smaller air compressor that is hand-held or can be pulled on wheels. In most cases, a smaller air compressor can suffice for jobs around the house. But contractors taking on a large project that requires the use of multiple tools that need to be powered with compressed air may want to look into renting a towable air compressor that is more powerful and dependable.
